On the flip side, the game is very obviously optimised for PS3 and Xbox with very little work seeming to be put into a sensible or intuitive PC menu system. The content is good for an initial release, though at the higher levels repetition needs addressing with future downloads, which they seem to be doing, and there have been very few of the hiccups normally associated with the first months of an MMO which means less server downtime and (for me at least anyway) no loss of progress in XP. So much so, a much lower level player can defeat a higher level if they know how their attacks string together - it's not just about equipment/gear as in so many other games! The fights are closer to Streetfighter 4 than they are to City of Heroes or World of Warcraft, and skill and speed of response do make a difference. This makes the game feel much more involved than the usual MMO. With DCUO you can string together your attacks or modify them `on the fly' by changing the sequencing of attack buttons. I love the combat system which differs from other MMOs in that you're not simply pressing keys to cycle through corresponding `powers' or `attacks' on the screen. In play the whole thing gels together very well and looks really, really good. I bought the DCUO version for the PC and was overall very impressed with the graphics quality and overall `finish' of the game. I've extensively played City of Heroes for the last 5 years so I was looking forward to playing the DC Heroes `take' on super-powered MMOs. I'm a big fan of online roleplay games, having played most of them over the years (and still having active accounts in quite a few). The only negative aspect is that some of the missions can be repetitive but if Sony listens to its player base this Im sure will be addressed and exciting content will be applied. Initially was expecting to be disappointed for example like the awful "champions online". The interface hopefully will be updated as it feels clunky but does the job sufficently but as yet have not tested the voice chat option which has been updated by Sony via a patch so hopefully should be now working at optimum quality available. So far I am having a blast with this game and offers a nice change to the usual fantasy setting we are use to. Playing with the mouse and keyboard is frustrating so do yourself a favour and buy either a receiver to enable your xbox controller to be attached to your pc or buy an xbox controller specifically made for the pc.Ĭonsidering its early days into launch they have delivered a polished game with much potential and lets hope Sony deliver on its promise of future content updates.
